Planning to Plan

How many times have you said 'I'll do it tomorrow'?

How many New Years resolutions have gathered dust?

When is it finally going to be the right time to start?

I'll answer the last one for you - Never!

Planning to plan has always been one of my biggest downfalls in life.

I used to spend hours planning and visualising the perfect day - promising that 'tomorrow' I was going to sort my shit out.

Only to let one thing - that usually happened first thing in the morning - throw me off my entire day.

Then I was back to - let's start again tomorrow... or Monday!

Back in May this year I came across Dan Koe's profile on Instagram and everything just started to click - I had delved into the twittersphere back in 2017 for about a week before I gave up posting.

Oh how I wish I knew back then what I know now - but I guess timing is everything!

I had decided I was going to take his 7 Days to Genius Challenge, and the first thing my brain said was - 'Let's start next week.'

It was in that moment I caught myself...

For the last couple of years I have had these grand plans to build my own business and earn money online and become successful, yet there I was sat on the sofa with nothing actually moving me towards this goal.

It is Never going to be a good time to start building your own business or personal brand or anything.

You have to Start Now - I signed up for Dan's challenge, followed the instructions and had an almost out of body experience as the first twitter post went out.

The rest of the week was a blur, all I knew was that I had to complete this challenge.

This time I was going to stick to what I had started...

I had to prove to myself I could do 7 days in a row!

Otherwise what am I doing?!

This tweet is from my first week:

In her book Untamed Glennon Doyle describes it as 'knowing'

Call it intuition or a gut feeling but right there on the sofa for the first time I could SEE through all my excuses.

I was not going to let another year go by just 'wishing' for my goals to become a reality.

Take Action

'If you spent half as many hours taking action as you did thinking about taking action, you would be in a better spot.' - Dickie Bush

You can't think your way to a healthier body

You can't think your way to successful business

You can't think yourself into the life you have always wanted - well you can day dream all you like but that's not the same.

Until you start taking action towards your goals nothing is going to happen.

Your Habits Hold The Key

'You'll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.' - John C. Maxwell

Take a moment to realise your goal will not be attainable without powerful habits.

Daily habits that you can control right now - or starting tomorrow ;)

Habits that might not relate directly to your business but are essential to how you are going to function as a human being.

Here are a few examples of what I mean...

If you are stuck in a loop of planning to plan, scared and struggling to push publish on your first post or piece of content for your business...

Forget the big goal for just a second.

As powerful as fear is - Bad habits are a bigger factor to failure.

The problem is you cant kick everything all at once, for every negative habit you want to eliminate you have to come up with a suitable positive habit to replace it.

I want you to ask yourself the following questions

1) What’s the one thing I could stop doing on a regular basis?

2) What could I be doing every day for 30 minutes that would advance my life?

Start this week. Block out the time.

If you don't know where to start, I focused on these three to help reduce the fear of putting myself out there.

  • Meditation - I started with 10 mins

  • Exercising - Go for a walk

  • Journalling - 3 pages a day

6 months, almost 2,000 tweets and 4 Newsletters later.... This is just the beginning.

I look forward to seeing yours.

You can do it!

Maja Howard

P.S - Don't wait until the new year, you have 5 weeks before we hit 2023. If you start now you can enjoy the holidays moving into the new year with some momentum!
